With Wimbledon round the corner the tennis courts at AKS are buzzing with budding tennis stars as a large numbers of boys and girls play in the school’s ‘Road to Wimbledon’ Singles and Doubles Championships which will culminate with the AKS ‘Wimbeldon style’ finals on the schools superb grass courts at the end of the term.

As a tournament warm-up the AKS U15 team took on a Rossall U15 mixed team and came out on top by just one set at the end of nine closely fought matches.  In fantastic weather there was some superb tennis played by both teams and in three out of the 9 games played there was the difference of one game in the result.

1st couple Laura K and Beth R won their matches with some superb serving and consistent ground strokes to move the Rossall players around the court and force them into errors. Patsy C , Katie T and Maddie R produced some game winning shots throughout the morning pushing the Rossall couples to work hard to win points and after the first 6 games the match score was AKS 3 Rossall 3, so all to play for in the last 3 games.

The final rubber of matches saw the score change hands several times in all the games with both schools producing some great tennis. The AKS 3rd couple of Lucy B and Olivia M played their best tennis of the morning to win their match and Beth R and Laura K showed great shot selection and court coverage to win their game and give AKS the 5 - 4 team win.

Overall a superb morning of tennis enjoyed by both teams and an ideal precursor to the start of Wimbledon.
