This term, Year 8 pupils have immersed themselves in the energetic and expressive realm of graffiti art, taking inspiration from the bold visuals and inventive styles found in street art. The project invited students to look closely at the language of graffiti, its colours, forms, textures and symbols, and consider how artists use these elements to communicate mood, identity and message.
After experimenting with a range of styles and sketching out their own concepts, students took their ideas a step further by translating their two-dimensional designs into miniature three-dimensional sculptures. This stage encouraged them to think about structure, form and the physical presence of their work, resulting in imaginative pieces that reflected both creativity and personal flair.
To complete the process, pupils photographed their finished sculptures using studio lighting and backdrops. This allowed them to explore how composition, angles and light can change the mood and impact of an artwork, while also giving them valuable experience in presenting their work professionally.
The project has been a wonderful opportunity for Year 8 to experiment, express themselves and gain hands-on insight into the artistic process from concept to final presentation. Their final outcomes demonstrate both skill and individuality, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved this term.
