Enrichment

Alongside their academic studies, AKS Sixth Form students also benefit from a twice-weekly timetabled Enrichment Programme.

Our Enrichment Programme supports students in the development of key study skills that enhance their academic progress and is also an integral part of their character education at AKS.

Through a series of workshops and lectures, students develop the transferrable skills required at Sixth Form and beyond, such as time management, organisation, reflective thinking, and target setting. Workshops in technology literacy help boost their professional proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs to ensure they are adept in digital forms of communication. Projects involving problem-based and inquiry-based learning also serve to enhance their skills in collaboration and teamwork. As part of the enrichment programme, students are invited to undertake an individual research project in a topic of their choosing, providing them with the opportunity to delve into an area of interest and hone key skills in research methodology, time management and academic evaluation, culminating in the presentation of their findings to an audience of staff, students and parents.

Students can also enhance their academic studies by completing a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). These online courses are widely recognised by universities as excellent ways to enhance a student’s academic skillset beyond A level.

The personal enrichment sessions are designed to nurture character development and cover a broad range of topics such as physical and mental health, finance, politics and culture to name a few. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a range of Life Skills courses, such as cooking, horticulture or the completion of a certified First Aid course.

As a Round Square Sixth Form, students can also complete a series of units focusing on the organisation’s IDEALS that underpin the Discovery Framework: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

The Sixth Form Careers Programme plays an integral part of the overall Enrichment Programme and provides students with a series of talks from universities, degree apprenticeship providers and the world of work.
