Sixth Form

Welcome to Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at AKS prepares students for life beyond school, helping them move forward with confidence and the skills to make a positive impact.

We combine strong academic teaching with a broad range of opportunities beyond the classroom. These include sport, performing arts, outdoor education, and service, alongside chances to develop skills in teamwork, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

AKS Sixth Form supports students as they progress to their next steps after school, including university, apprenticeships, and employment. Whether joining in Year 12 or continuing from earlier years, students are encouraged to make the most of Sixth Form life and aim high.

Based in Lytham St Annes, AKS Sixth Form welcomes students from across the Fylde Coast and Preston area, supported by school transport routes including key stops in Blackpool, Kirkham, Fulwood and Penwortham.

How do students apply for Sixth Form?

The best first step is to arrange a visit or attend an open event. Admissions will then guide you through the application process and next steps.

What age range is Sixth Form?

AKS Sixth Form is for students aged 16-18 and supports them through the final stage of school before university, apprenticeships, or employment.

Can we visit the Sixth Form before applying?

Yes. Families are encouraged to book a visit so you can meet staff, explore facilities, and understand the day-to-day experience of Sixth Form life.

How do students choose their subjects?

Students are supported to make informed choices based on strengths, interests, and future goals. Guidance is provided through conversations with staff and the Sixth Form team.

What support is available for academic progress?

Teachers and the Sixth Form team monitor progress closely and provide support and guidance to help students stay on track throughout their courses. Small class sizes allow the opportunity for plenty of direct teaching.

What pastoral support is available in Sixth Form?

Sixth Form students are supported pastorally alongside their academic programme, with staff available to help with wellbeing, organisation, and wider development. We also have a wellbeing hub on-site called VENT to allow all students to feel comfortable during their time at Sixth Form.

What careers and university support is available?

Students receive guidance with next steps, including university applications, apprenticeships, and career planning. The AKS Lytham careers department was listed as a 'Significant Strength' in the 2025 ISI report.

Is there support with UCAS and personal statements?

Yes. Students are supported through the application process, including planning, drafting, and preparing for next steps.

What is student leadership like in Sixth Form?

Sixth Form provides opportunities for responsibility and leadership as part of school life, supporting confidence and personal growth.

Can students join Sixth Form from another school?

Yes. AKS welcomes external applicants, subject to availability and meeting entry requirements. Admissions can advise on the process and timings.

Do you offer school transport for Sixth Form students?

School transport routes support access from across the Fylde Coast and Preston area. Admissions can direct families to the transport information and portal.
