Blackpool Circus Duo Inspire AKS Students at Careers event

From plate spinning and juggling, to diablo - How can these circus skills improve our cognitive ability?

On Friday 9th May, students in Year 7 and Year 12 participated in a unique careers-focused event led by Mooky the Clown and Mr. Boo from Blackpool Tower Circus. The visitors provided an engaging introduction to various circus skills, including plate spinning, juggling, and diablo.

This activity aligns with research, including studies conducted at Harvard University, suggesting that engaging in skills requiring coordination and focus, such as juggling, can positively influence cognitive functions. These skills are understood to contribute to the development of areas such as working memory and attention.

Adding an extra layer of connection to the event was the fact that Mr. Boo is a proud alumnus of Arnold School, one of AKS Lytham's heritage schools. His return to share his skills and experiences was particularly inspiring for the students.

The careers event provided a practical and enjoyable learning experience for the students, offering insights into the dedication and skill involved in performance arts.

The school extends its gratitude to Mooky and Mr. Boo for their engaging contribution to the students' learning.
