A-level Business provides students with a critical understanding of the internal functions of a business and the dynamic socio, political, economic and technological context in which they operate. There is a need to appreciate and critique a number of business models and financial formulae.
By the end of the course students are expected to develop strategic decision making in the topic areas of HR, operations, finance and marketing. More broadly, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions, all skills that are needed for further study and employment.
Many AKS Year 12 students take part in the national Tycoons in Schools student enterprise competition, where groups from AKS have topped the leader board for the past six years. This is a superb practical way to develop one’s understanding of businesses, both for students of the subject and those with a wider interest.
Business is useful for numerous university courses, and may support applications for Business, Banking, Accountancy, and Management degrees after school.
