Physics

Physics is the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of Physics includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms. The laws of Physics can be used to predict the behaviour of the world and all kinds of machinery. Many of the everyday technological inventions that we now take for granted resulted from discoveries in Physics.

The AKS Physics Department is a stimulating environment in which to work and study. It has superb resources, and its teachers are experienced physicists with a range of specialisms and research backgrounds, all of whom are committed to inspiring in our pupils a love of Physics.

In the Sixth Form, students can study Physics at A-level, which requires a deep level of understanding and a willingness from students to undertake their own research and analysis.

Each year, students are offered the opportunity to enter the British Physics Olympiad and the Senior Physics Challenge. Visits to local university physics departments allow students to sample physics courses at a higher level, and recently students have travelled to Geneva to visit CERN.
