Careers

Our Careers Programme across the school follows the Gatsby Benchmarks, a framework of eight guidelines that defines the best in careers provision.

We recognise how important it is for students to understand and appreciate the options available to them and have the confidence and ability to pursue their own realistic pathways. By helping individuals to recognise their strengths and aptitudes, students are empowered to make their own well-informed decisions with support from the school and their parents/carers.

We are proud that each year a remarkably large number of our students are accepted to their first choice of university, and we are equally as proud of those who pursue a different route whether it be on school leaver programmes or apprenticeships.

Senior School Programme Overview

  • Careers sessions form part of our PSHE curriculum from Year 7. These are supplemented by a range of activities outside of lesson time, focusing on digital, enterprise and employability skills.
  • From Year 9, students have specific Careers sessions, led by our Head of Careers. These include personal insight profiling, industry-specific sessions, networking sessions and our annual Futures Fair.
  • In Year 10 and 11, additional support is provided in writing CVs, exploring university and apprenticeship options, gaining skills for life, one-to-one careers guidance, mock interviews and work experience.
  • In addition, we draw from our extensive OAKS alumni to support our event programmes:
    • Monthly 'Meet the Professionals' sessions
    • 'An audience with...' notable alumni events

Our whole school participates in age-relevant activities and workshops with external speakers during National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week.
