AKS Year 9 Debate Team Triumph in The Great Lancashire Debate

The AKS Year 9 debate team recently took part in The Great Lancashire Debate, a county-wide competition that encourages young people to engage with current issues and develop their public speaking skills. This year’s motion focused on the impact of local library closures and whether Lancashire needs an accessible community hub to support residents.

Our students constructed a compelling argument in favour of establishing such a hub, drawing on examples, personal insight and wider social considerations. Their ability to combine initiative, imagination and clear reasoning set their presentation apart from the competition.

After delivering their case with confidence and conviction, the team were selected as the winners of the Fylde category. This is a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work and thoughtful preparation.

Their success means they will now go on to represent the district in the final later this month, where they will once again have the opportunity to showcase their talents on a larger stage.

Congratulations to Isabella, Antonia, Darcey, Eliza and Hugo on their outstanding performance and well-deserved win.
