Parents and staff were treated to a packed programme of piano, vocal, clarinet, saxophone, drums, guitar, flute, cornet, trombone at last night’s Summer Concert.
The pupils’ passion and confidence shined through as they performed a variety of styles in the programme that included pupils in Years 1 to 6. It was fantastic to watch children progress, growing in confidence and ambition – ranging from Winnie (Year 4) who performed brilliantly after only two lessons on the piano, to our more experienced musicians, including Rowan (Year 6), who incorporated actions into her musical theatre performance of ‘Naughty’ from the Matilda musical and Isaac (Year 6) who closed the concert by playing his own composition, ‘Fantasy’, on the piano.
All the children were superb, bringing their own personalities to their performances and through their choice of music. A particular highlight was Sienna (Year 4) who accompanied her vocal of ‘Johnnie Be Goode’ by also playing the piano. She was supported by Mr Thomas on drums and Mr Hodder on guitar. Her energy was electric and got the whole audience understanding why it is her grandfather’s favourite song!
We were also treated to performances from both the Brass and Flute ensembles, which have proved very popular co-curricular clubs this year. We are indebted to our PTA for funding our instrument scheme, as their investment has enabled us to offer everyone the opportunity to try a variety of instruments, whether part of their classwork, or a club.
Congratulations to all those who took part and thank you to our music department for fostering a love of music that will last a lifetime.
