Great morning of hockey against Rossall

AKS enjoyed another superb morning of hockey with 6 teams taking on local rivals Rossall and large squads enjoying competitive matches in all age groups.

A large squad of 16 enjoyed the U14 match with many girls taking to the competitive field for the first time this season after training well since the start of the term. We started brightly, attacking from the first whistle with Anya D and Eve C using their pace well to put the Rossall defence under pressure. Lucy T was close to opening the scoring when a great cross from Anya D found her free on the left post but her effort was well saved by the good Rossall keeper. We deservedly did take the lead when Eve C found the net in the 15th minute and were 2 up at the break thanks to a second from Eleanor J. We were on the front foot in the second half and a second goal from Eleanor J early in the half sealed the win after good pressing from all the team. With the game won and some tired legs Rossall enjoyed more possession late in the game and won a number of corners but good team defending and a great save from keeper Carrerra M-M maintained our clean sheet and the final score was 3 – 0. Players of the Match were Charlotte C and Eve C.

In the U12A team fixture, AKS started strongly forcing a penalty corner after five minutes. From this first and as yet, unrehearsed set move, Camilla C scored with a well placed shot from a Gracie G injection. AKS defended well with Penelope D and Reya B winning their tackles as well as supporting the forwards. The second half saw the Rossall goalkeeper make a number of good saves before Lila N cleverly placed the ball in the left corner of the goal to make it 2-0. Gracie G played well on the right while Maisie W was a constant danger in front of goal. The Rossall keeper played well and it took another well placed shot from Camilla C to make the final score 3-0 to AKS. Player of the match was undoubtedly Camilla C. Her decision making of when to pass and when to drive through herself was superb and influenced the game.

The U12B team game saw both teams gain in confidence and improve as the game progressed. AKS were the more dangerous of the two teams going forwards and Anika R ran through on the left to open the scoring for AKS. Olivia D made it 2-0 with a reverse stick shot past the keeper. A crucial tackle in defence from Kate H set up the best goal of the game. Her pass down the line found Olivia D  who beat a player before crossing it to Anika R who slotted it past the keeper. The final AKS goal came from Charlotte J whose tireless and determined runs were rewarded with a goal to make the final score 4-0 to AKS. It was a promising performance from the AKS team and the Players of the Match were Anika R and Olivia D.

The U13 A team won 6 – 1 but the U13 B team continued their good start to the season with an evenly matched encounter against Rossall.  In a strong first half display AKS were able to absorb the Rossall pressure and created several chances of their own. Unfortunately they were not able to turn their dominance into a goal. AKS started the second half well and scored a quick team goal. AKS had several more chances but were prevented by some good goalkeeping. AKS conceded late on to a Rossall counter attack and the match finished 1-1. The whole team are to be commended for what was a solid performance against a good opposition and Isla A was the player of the match.

The U15 game saw us dominate possession and create lots of scoring opportunities and we deservedly  won 1 – 0 with the goal scored by Sophie W.  Players of the match were Sophie F & Libby C.
