We are incredibly honoured to announce that AKS has been named Lancashire Rugby School of the Year for 2024/25.
This prestigious award recognises the outstanding effort, talent and passion that defines our rugby programme, an achievement made possible by the dedication of our students, staff, parents and alumni.
This recognition goes far beyond success on the scoreboard. It celebrates the thriving rugby culture at AKS, where commitment, teamwork and community spirit are at the core of everything we do. These values were on full display during the 1st XV’s performance in the Lancashire Cup Final at Fylde RFC, one of our valued sporting partners. It was a truly memorable evening—one that capped off a remarkable season for sport across our school.
Headmaster David Harrow commented:
“I am thrilled that our school has been recognised by this award. It is a tribute to a lot of hard work and passion, and a dedication to providing a brilliant experience in rugby to players of all abilities. The Lancashire Cup was a highlight, of course, but far from the only one, and it is wonderful to see the next generation of home-grown players follow in their footsteps, led with expertise and energy by Alan Holmes and his team.”
As Director of Rugby Alan Holmes shared:
“We are delighted to be awarded the Lancashire Rugby School of the Year. It has been a fantastic season for the school, especially the 1st XV, who have had very strong results against a number of prestigious rugby-playing schools. The squad have played some phenomenal rugby and it is great to see their development come to fruition, after entering and progressing through the rugby programme in Year 7.
In addition to team success, we have had a record number of home-grown players in the Sale Sharks Elite Player Group, along with Lancashire representation, North of England and The Independent School National Representative Side. This is testimony to the hard work of the boys and the support they receive from the coaches and volunteers within the school. We are excited for the future—looking forward to seeing the next generation push through, as well as tracking OAKS as they achieve success beyond AKS."
Looking ahead, this award offers fresh inspiration and pride to current and future AKS students. We remain committed to nurturing not only sporting excellence but also the character-building values that rugby promotes. The future of rugby at AKS is bright, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow.
