Great performances at Lancashire Schools Athletics Championships by William, Maddie & Layla

 Maddie B , Layla W and William W are to be congratulated on being selected to represent Fylde Schools at the recent Lancashire Schools Athletic Championship. This is where all the best young athletes in Lancashire come together to compete against one another in their chosen event and it certainly bought the best out of the all our athletes as Layla & Maddie put in school record breaking performances and William finished in runners-up spot.

Maddie, competing in her first Intermediate 800m race at this level of the season, went out with the leaders and was in the leading pack as they went through the bell and eventually finished a creditable 4th in a great time of 2min 30.9 seconds to smash the record she set earlier in the year by over 10 seconds.

Sprinter Layla stepped up a distance superbly to run in the Junior 300m. Usually taking part in the shorter sprint events Layla paced her race superbly to finish strongly down the home straight to clinch 2nd place and record an impressive time of 45.9sec to get her name in the records books , breaking the old school record by over 2 seconds. Both these performances were even more special as they were competing against girls a year older them. This bodes well for the future.

In the field events there was another superb performance from William W in the Intermediate Boys Shot event. His superb throw of 11.74m saw him take second place.
