With Wimbledon just around the corner and the sun shining it is definitely ‘tennis time’ and AKS
tennis players are practicing hard for their upcoming matches.
The U13 team got off to the perfect start as they triumphed over Kirkham in an exciting U13
Lancashire Schools Cup match.
The competition involves 4 singles matches followed by 2 doubles matches with each match being
a set of tennis. Great singles wins from Amelie Cave and Sadie Atkinson, with both playing consistent
tennis, saw the scores level at two sets all after the first round. With the result of the match
dependent on the doubles games Amelia and Gracie Saba worked well together and played superbly
to secure our first doubles win. With everything to play for Louisa Bargh and Alyssa Woodman
teamed up to defeat their doubles opposition and secure AKS a 4-2 victory and so secured their
place in the semi-finals.
The U15 team also played in the Lancashire Cup with a double header against Kirkham and
Stonyhurst.
The U15 tennis team delivered an impressive performance against Kirkham. We got off to the perfect
start in the singles rubber with wins in 3 out of 4 matches. Great serving from Isabella Seidel-Simonet
put her opponent on the back foot and she recorded a well deserved win as did Aoife Kerr and Esme
Miller who played consistent tennis to overcome their opponents. The team then played the doubles
matches and they continued their success winning both matches, resulting in a final score of 5-1 in
favour of AKS.
The match against Stonyhurst was more challenging. The AKS girls played excellently but ultimately
fell short, with Stonyhurst claiming the victory.
