Head of Scholars, Michael Hodgkinson hosted the first of this year's Lunchtime Lectures in the OAKS Hall on Wednesday 11th October. He welcomed Governor Professor StJohn Crean to share his research into the link between gum disease and dementia, in particular, Alzheimer’s disease.
After discussing the correlation, potential causation and possible mechanism of action, he advised students how to minimises the spread of bacteria - a contributory factor to asymptomatic cerebral inflammation – by amending their oral hygiene practices.
Following the talk, StJohn spoke to students interested in applying for degrees in medicine.
Lunchtime Lectures are part of our Scholars' Programme, which is compulsory for Academic Scholars in Years 7-13 and optional for all other students. The next lecture will take place on Tuesday 28th November.
