AKS U14 hockey squad are celebrating being crowned Lancashire Champions and continuing the fantatsic season so far. The talented AKS Team started superbly dominating the opening exchanges against Stonyhurst and wining  a barrage of penalty corners but the Stonyhurst defence  defended well to keep the scores level. We did, however take the lead in the 14th minute when Kirtika S robbed the ball from a Stonyhurst defender and then slipped it to Layla W who made no mistake in finding the net to make it 1 – 0. Anna V added a second goal before  the break and made it 3 – 0 after another  great pass from Layla W early into the second half.  The same combination made it 4 – 0 before Lisa P was on hand to pick up a rebound and slot past the keeper to make it 5 – 0. A fourth goal from Vavoso and a second from Layla W made the final score 7 – 0 to  secure our first points.

Our second game against Kirkham Grammar was a closer affair and despite winning several attacking corners early on Kirkham defended well to keep the scores level. Great driving runs by Layla W constantly put the Kirkham defence under pressure and she deservedly opened the scoring in the 13th  minute. Kirkham did enjoy possession of their own but great defending and a superb team effort thwarted their best efforts and after the break we went 2 – 0 ahead when Camilla C found the net.  Layla Wholey was on target again to make it 3 – 0 and her hat- trick goal made it 4 – 0 soon after. An own goal late in the game made the final score 5 – 0 and with a second win deservedly secured top spot. Captains Lisa P and Layla W collected the trophy as the team celebrated being crowned Lancashire U14 Champions and they now represent Lancashire into the North Finals.
