Rugby roundup - AKS have fun in the sun at they play host to Ripley St Thomas

PUBLISHED 27 September 2021

Another great week of development for the AKS teams, as they take on the physical might of Ripley St Thomas.

U12's

The U12’s have continued to work hard to support each other in their development as a squad. AKS played with ability to move the ball with pace and a fierce determination in defence and this was the cornerstones of the game against Ripley. AKS started strong with good line organisation and running support in the attack which allowed them to score a number of tries In the first half. In the second half, Ripley bounced back taking a grip of the game and launching a number of attacks to challenge AKS defence and allowing them to get back into the game. The final score ended 8-7 to AKS with tries from Aiden, Tino, Johnnie, Oakley, Wills, Finlay K, Archie & Thomas. All round a very pleasing effort, with many players getting an opportunity to play and enjoy developing their rugby.

MOM: Finlay K

U13s

AKS U13’s picked up their first win of the season with a fantastic performance that build on the successes of last weekend.

After a big week of training, AKS started with a relentless intensity both in defence and attack. This allowed a number of superb team, as well as one or two outstanding individual tries. This came from AKS moving the ball wide at every opportunity and attacking space when it opened up. Defence was also excellent with notable contributions from Will and Charlie F. Try scorers were: Leo 3 Jacob 2 Ethan 1 Oliver 1 Jack 1 Henry 2

MOM: Ethan B

U14s

The U14s had a tough game against a very powerful Ripley pack. In the first half, AKS struggled in defence as they sat back and allowed Ripley to run at them and gain momentum. This saw Ripley score a number of tries and dominate early exchanges despite a valiant effort in defence from Alfie L, Sammy and Lucas. In the second half AKS upped their defensive effort and with the introduction of Jack to the front row, saw AKS with more ball and opportunity to attack. This saw Charlie K breaking the Ripley line on a number of occasions and eventually the opportunity for Will to weave his way through to score by the posts. Ripley continued to fight back to score again and but AKS were still in the fight with strong running from Alfie R and Robert K, AKS were camped on the Ripley line, before a touch of genius from Sammy to chip the defence chase his kick and tackle the fullback over the Ripley line for Robert to pounce on the ball for AKS second try. Ripley finished the game with a score to seal their win, but AKS must take heart and build on the successes of the second-half performance. MOM Robert M for his relentless and brutal tackling in defence.

U16s

Under 16 showed great character to bounce back from the frustrations of last weekend’s loss.

This was an excellent team performance that demonstrated the progress that the team continue to make. Josh Squires opened the scoring after a well-worked try and then sterling defence kept our opponents at bay.

This was followed by an excellent Jeremy N try, after neat interplay with Tom O'H gave the homeside a 10-0  lead with Felix T adding the extras. With the defence keeping Ripley at bay- with Toby, Noah and Sam all contributing excellent turnovers- AKS finished the half 12-5 up.  A strong second-half performance saw Jeremy cross for his second try of the game, before Tom extended the lead. Credit must go to Ripley who played with great spirit and commitment and they scored 2 second-half tries to keep themselves in the game, however, John M capped a barnstorming performance with a fine individual try.

Final score 27-17.

AKS look forward to cup games for the U18s and U15’s this week and a block fixture against Giggleswick next Saturday.
