Our Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed a memorable end-of-year adventure at the beautiful and historic Samlesbury Hall, Preston, Lancashire. With the sun shining brightly on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far, the children were full of excitement as they arrived and tucked into a delicious picnic lunch in the courtyard.
After lunch, the group split into two. While some children ventured inside the Hall to uncover its rich history and marvel at its fascinating architecture, others enjoyed a guided tour of the picturesque grounds—wandering through lush gardens, exploring the woodland paths, and even having fun with a cheerful game of hook-a-duck at the water fountain. However, the highlight of the day for many was undoubtedly the time spent in the Hall’s fabulous outdoor play area nestled in the woods. With rope ladders, treehouses, and shaded hideaways, it was the perfect setting for imaginative play and adventure.
To cool off, everyone enjoyed a well-earned ice cream, an ideal treat on such a warm day. A special moment came when William and Josh proudly presented a cheque for £250 to one of the Hall’s trustees. This generous donation, raised by the Prep School through a bake sale organised by Mrs Haworth the previous week, will go towards the much-needed new roof for the Hall.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Blinston and Mrs Shakespeare for accompanying Year 6 on this special trip. Their care and attention ensured the children stayed safe, hydrated and cool throughout the day.
This trip was more than just a day out, it was a celebration of the wonderful Year 6 cohort coming together for their final outing as Prep School pupils. As they laughed, explored and made memories, it was clear how much they have grown together over the years. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and wish them all the very best as they take their next steps into Senior School this September.
