Announcing performance dates for Prep's Giant Orchestra

Announcing performance dates for Prep's Giant Orchestra

PUBLISHED 21 November 2019

Every child in prep school from Year 3-6 learns at least one musical instrument, with class lessons covering violin (Year 3), trombone (Year 4) and clariet or flute (Year 5), cornet (Year 6). For many children, this results in them taking up individual lessons to continue beyond their first year; for others it expands their musical knowledge and experience; but perhaps most importantly, it is great fun making music together!

In addition to class lessons, the school come together on a Thursday morning to practice as our 'Giant Orchestra'. It lives up to it's name with 80 children regularly participating.

We have some upcoming performances and would like all children to take part, and of course, if possible for parents to come and support them. The dates are as follows:

  • Friday 6th December: Brass Band Concert - Senior School Hall 19:00 meet, start at 19:30, Yrs 3-6 - instruments needed.
  • Saturday 14th December: Christmas Fair - Senior School Hall 11:00 meet, start at 11:15, Yrs 3-6 - instruments needed.
  • Monday 16th December: Preparatory School Winter Concert - Preparatory School Hall 17:30 meet, start at 18:00 (If you wish to perform please see Mr Thomas or speak to your peripatetic teacher).
  • Saturday 7th March 2020: ‘Sing Together’ Concert – King George’s Hall, Blackburn (timings to be confirmed)

As a way of inspiring your children to practise, Mr Thomas has worked with our specialist music teachers to create a series of online tutorials, as can be seen in this one for the cornet, his ethusiasm knows no bounds!
