Year 2 - Refreshed and ready to learn!

PUBLISHED 05 June 2020

The children are off to a flying start after half term.

After a lovely sunny half term break, the children in Year 2 have returned to their Skype lessons ready to settle down and concentrate on their learning.

Many parents have commented on how focused their children are and the improvement in their independent learning as they have become more used to this way of life. This week's focus was the Seaside with the children sharing their ideas to develop poems about the seaside, based around their senses.

I was so impressed with the development in their vocabulary and use of alliteration to create exciting ideas. Maths has been looking at place value and introducing ‘Statistics’ through tally charts and block graphs, with the children choosing their own subjects to collect data on, then produce an accurate graph.

Science is all about plants, conditions for growth and understanding how a plant grows and reproduces. We have each planted sunflower seeds and will track their growth over the next few weeks, I wonder who will grow the tallest sunflower?

One of my favourite History topics in Year 2 is all about ‘Seaside holidays in the Past’ as we would normally explore the local area together, however I will be setting Year 2 research challenges to explore and find out the history of our locality and how Geography has been an important part of the development of Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.
