Senior Residentials

Senior Residentials

Residentials are an excellent way for AKS students to fully appreciate the wider context of work that has been undertaken in the classroom at AKS and add to a depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding AKS students possess.

Senior students attend our Year 7 Geography residential to the Yorkshire Dales to study the geology of limestone and the fluvial features of the local river, as well as learning new geographical skills.

This is followed by a whole year group trip to the Lake District in Year 9, comprising a full week of outdoor activities, either on Lake Windermere or a full day in the Lake District fells, with an ascent of the Old Man of Coniston.

Alongside these whole year group residentials there are opportunities to join the AKS Ski trip to the European Alps, to participate in European Music Tours, or Sports Tours further afield, such as to South Africa and Australia. We also run subject-specific trips to support languages, science and history, for example to WWI battlefields, Auschwitz, Prague and Krakow.

Transition to Sixth Form

Transition to Sixth Form

Transition to Sixth Form commences during the Summer Term of Year 10 and continues throughout Year 11 with a wide variety of experiential and informative sessions.

Our Pre-A level Programme runs for a two-week period following GCSE examinations providing a strong foundation for the academic rigour of A levels by encouraging students to be inquisitive, scholarly and committed.

The programme includes three A level/BTEC preparation sessions per week in the student's chosen subjects; enrichment sessions focusing on practical life skills, building employability and other areas of interest beyond the curriculum, including a leadership challenge; wider experiences such as TED Talks and MOOCs (massive open online courses) provided by a number of prestigious universities around the world.

During this period of exploration, students will also able to schedule one-to-one sessions with Mr Maund for careers guidance and/or A level options.
