Year 5's "Residential at Home" PUBLISHED 10 June 2020 Celebrating what should have been their 3 day residential trip to Castle Head, there was lots of fun in their Skype lessons instead! Year 5 should have gone to Castle Head in the Lake District for their 3 day residential, so to keep their spirits up, their teachers organised fun activities in a #ResidentialAtHome. Design Technology became a mini raft building challenge - children had to build a raft that could carry up to 1kg and stay afloat for up to five minutes. Pupils tested these in the bath (or paddling pool)- there were some amazing creations! On Friday, our regular Maths lesson was replaced with some practical problems. The Skype format allowed us to play 21 sticks in pairs and hold a five-way race to solve "The Tower of Hanoi" with four objects. Next came a fun quiz and a virtual campfire. The children came prepared with Smores and either a joke or story to tell. What do you call an exploding monkey? Baboom!!! You get the idea. The week ended with a chance to get outdoors and make a five-minute fitness video. Hopefully, next year we will all be away together, but in the meantime, we all had great fun completing our stay at home residential! AUTHOR: Alex Brown PUBLISHED: 10 June 2020 CATEGORIES: News
