Year 11 student Keira brings smiles to NHS staff and children!

Year 11 student Keira decided to put her artistic talents to great use after talking to her aunt Jackie, a specialist practitioner at the Blenheim Child Development Centre, in Whitegate Drive, Blackpool.  Her aunt explained that the personal protective equipment (PPE) clinicians have to wear poses a challenge as a masked face can be frightening to children.

Keira really wanted to help so set about creating three different designs which can be attached to visors.  She designed a dinosaur, rainbow, and unicorn - each with a smile to replace the one hidden by the face mask!  She then produced 700 laminates by cutting the images to shape, laminating and fitting them to PPE visors.

Keira said: “To make the PPE less frightening and more appealing to children, I gave the designs a storybook feel and each one features a smile to replace the one hidden by the use of a face mask. My aim was to make the PPE look fun to help staff connect with the children”.

Well you certainly did that Keira - they are fantastic and we are sure they will make it easier for clinicians and children alike.  They will be used by local NHS children’s community teams during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Keira secured the help of Wendy at ZPQ Designs in St Annes, who provided printing services for free to support the NHS.

We couldn't be prouder of you Keira, your kindness truly shines bright - well done!
