Fantastic Fun on World Book Day

PUBLISHED 04 March 2021

AKS Prep School celebrated World Book Day today with a raft of activities for students to enjoy! This year, our theme for World Book Day was ‘Books from Other Cultures’ to reflect the Round Square pillar of Internationalism and enhance the children’s learning about other ethnicities, traditions and values.

Our students pulled out all stops this year with some fantastic costumes as they dressed as a character or author! We've seen superheroes, dinosaurs, Kings and Princesses to name a few!

Students have been participating in lots of exciting activities all week. Each class joined interactive lessons with famous authors and illustrators - Year 6 attended a comedy writing sketch online workshop with the author Simon James Green and ‘Design a Witch’ with Katy Birchall.

They've also enjoyed the challenges that were set - including writing poetry, best diorama entitled ‘Book in a Box’, and also a one million word reading challenge - which they smashed after only 72 hours!

A special thank you to Mr Rice, our Literacy Coordinator (aka Spiderman) who also marked World Book Day with an online literacy Pre-Schooler Outreach event.  He will run a further 2 fun online literacy sessions on the 11th and 18th March - which will be full of valuable content to help support your child with early literacy at home - the events are FREE and OPEN TO ALL!  Missed it? You can view it here on our dedicated YouTube channel: here
