AKS Systems Manager wins global award!

PUBLISHED 24 June 2021

We are delighted to announce that our school Systems Manager, Katy Nicholson, has been awarded a prestigious MVP (Most Valuable Professional) for the Enterprise Mobility category from Microsoft, joining a select group of 3,000 IT professionals worldwide who share the honour of the MVP status.

Since she joined our staff in 2005, Katy’s technical wizardry has been highly valued in keeping our IT systems both running and continually improving. However, her recent MVP award takes this recognition to a global level!

Katy first came to the attention of the Microsoft community through her blog, KatysTech.Blog, in which she documents the various solutions, workarounds and fixes to systems challenges. These expert tips have proven invaluable to others in schools and small businesses who share her responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of systems and services.

She frequently shares her insights with the tech community groups, including Microsoft and edugeek (IT for schools), and on her Twitter account, @coaster_katy (so-called because of her love of rollercoasters!). Her posts have gained her over 800 followers and have ultimately led her to being nominated for the MVP award by another Microsoft professional.

The announcement was made on June 1st, when she received a letter confirming her award, explaining, “The Microsoft MVP Award is an annual award that recognizes exceptional technology community leaders worldwide who actively share their high quality, real world expertise with users and Microsoft… Microsoft MVPs represent a highly select group of experts. MVPs share a deep commitment to community and a willingness to help others... By sharing their knowledge and experiences, and providing objective feedback, they help people solve problems and discover new capabilities every day. MVPs are technology’s best and brightest, and we are honoured to welcome Katy as one of them”

This accolade is not only prestigious, but meaningful in the spirit of continued learning and connection, as explained by Microsoft, “To recognize the contributions they make, MVPs from around the world have the opportunity to meet Microsoft executives, network with peers, and position themselves as technical community leaders. This is accomplished through speaking engagements, one on one customer event participation and technical content development. MVPs also receive early access to technology through a variety of programs offered by Microsoft, which keeps them on the cutting edge of the software and hardware industry”

Congratulations Katy, you’re not only an MVP in Microsoft’s eyes, but also our own!
