AKS athletes finished the season in style as they claimed 2 of the 4 Wyre & Fylde championships after a superb day of athletics at Stanley Park.
It was an action packed day with the full range of track and field events for all year groups from 10 local schools and with a host of personal best performances and yet another record breaking performance from Yr 9 Charlotte R in the 300m it was a great day for the AKS athletes.
The U14 team dominated the team competition scoring 76 points to finish as Champions ahead of Lytham 63 points and St.Aidans 61 points. There were first place finishes for Freya W in 1500m ( 5m46s) Penny A in the Long Jump ( 3.85m and Paige S in the Discus ( 22.27m ) and second place finishes for Grace W in the 100m ( 13.3s), Arabella C in the shot ( 6.56m), Amelie Y in Discus ( 20.61m ) and Neve A in the Javelin (14.25m). Other point scorers were Grace W who came 4th in the 200m (28.6s) , Penny A 6th in 800m 3.00.7s and Neve A 6th in the High Jump ( 1.06m).
The U15 championships were a much closer affair with AKS sharing top spot with Lytham both scoring 80 points. Star performers were double winners Charlotte R who won the 800m ( 2m29.1s) and the 300m, breaking her own school record with a time of 44.5s and Sadie A who won the 1500m ( 5m32s) and High Jump ( 1.42m) Other double points scorers were Sophia T 3rd in discus ( 18.41m ) and 2nd in hurdles ( 14.2s) and Olivia C 6th in the 100m and 7th in the Long Jump. Valuable points were scored by Louisa B ( 1st in Discus 18.64m) , Alyssa W ( 3rd in 200m) , Evie G ( 1500m 4th) and Gabby R ( 100m 5th ).
The U17 team did themselves proud finishing in 3rd spot with 73 points. . The team was led admirably by Elsie T who won the 300m (47.2s) and Isobelle W who won the 1500m with a well paced run in 6m08s. A great run in the 80mHurdles by Georgina W saw her take 2nd spot to gain valuable team points and she added further points coming 5th in the 1500m. Isla J produced a personal best jump of 1.30m to finish 3rd in the High Jump as well as 8th in the Discus and there were 4th place finishes for Lauren A ( 800m) and Camilla W in the Shot. Other points winners were Casey McC ( 5th 100m) Lauren M ( 5th High Jump ) Esme M ( 5th Shot & 7th 100m) Camilla W ( 5th Discus) Lauren M (6th 100m) and Elsie T ( 8th Jav ). Overall a great team performance from all the girls with some athletes competing in their less favoured events to earn valuable points for the school and they epitomised the school values of ‘teamwork’ and working together towards a team goal.
The U13 team finished in 5th place with 44 points. Eva W-T was the top performer achieveing second place in the Discus with a throw of 16.45m and she followed this with 3rd in the shot (6.33m). Winnie v- R also gained second spot in the Rounders Ball throw with a superb distance of 37.00m whilst Sienna L finished 3rd in Discus (12.89m) . Other point scorers were Mila N ( 4th Hurdles) Georgina D-D ( 5th Long Jump) Alexia G ( 5th Hurdles) Alice W (6th shot) Lily W ( 7th Roundersball)
Overall a great day of athletics and two trophies and team medals were the perfect way to finish the athletics season at AKS.
