Nurturing Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality. As part of our school’s commitment to environmental stewardship, Year 6 students have been actively engaged in a range of eco-friendly initiatives. From reducing their carbon footprint to fostering self-sufficiency, their dedication has been commendable.

Learning About Sustainability. Year 6 pupils have delved into the fascinating world of sustainability. They’ve explored concepts such as carbon neutrality, waste reduction, and responsible resource management. Through engaging lessons and hands-on activities, they’ve gained a deeper understanding of their role in preserving our planet.

Growing Their Own Fruit and Vegetables. In our indoor garden, carefully tended by the pupils, a vibrant array of vegetables has taken root. Onions, celery, squash, mange tout, spinach, chilies, tomatoes, red peppers, and sunflowers thrive under their watchful eyes. Year 6 have learned about soil health, proper watering, and the importance of organic practices.

Recording Growth and Excitement. Year 6 has not only nurtured their plants but also meticulously observed and recorded their growth. Each leaf unfurling, each stem reaching for the light. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and they eagerly share their observations with classmates and teachers alike.

Taking Sunflower Seedlings Home. Today marks a special day for Year 6. They’re taking their giant sunflower seedlings home to plant in their gardens. The excitement is palpable—could one of these sunflowers break the UK’s world record for height? Standing taller than 30 feet would be an incredible achievement!

Harvesting Skills and Techniques. Beyond planting and nurturing, Year 6 has acquired valuable skills. They’ve learned about nutrition and healthy eating, to include the vitamin and mineral content of fruit and vegetables.

Mrs. Smith’s Guidance. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Smith and the Green Team, whose steady direction and guidance have been invaluable. Her passion for all things eco has inspired our children, and her expertise has fueled their enthusiasm. Mrs. Smith’s commitment to sustainability has left an indelible mark on Year 6.

A Carbon-Neutral Vision. This initiative aligns with our Prep School’s broader goal: achieving carbon neutrality. By reducing emissions and promoting nature’s renewal, Year 6 contributes to a greener, healthier future. We eagerly await the transformation of our outdoor garden and celebrate the positive impact these young environmentalists are making.

Thank you again for everyone's hard work and enthusiasm,

Mr Avis.
