AKS Lytham continues its track record of A level success

As the country returns to public examinations for the first time in three years, the AKS community is celebrating another year of outstanding achievements for A level students.

This year’s cohort continues the tradition of students taking up places at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions, including Oxford, King’s College London, UCL, Queen Mary University of London and Bristol, pursuing highly sought-after programmes in diverse fields including STEM, Medicine, Social Sciences, Performing Arts and Real Estate.

The Headmaster, David Harrow, said:

“With the national educational landscape so disrupted over the past few years, I cannot commend more highly the fantastic endeavours of all our students, whose academic successes sit alongside remarkable achievements on stage, on the sports pitch, as part of Round Square and in so many other areas. That they have kept everything going to such a high standard, with a characteristic sense of endeavour and good cheer, is incredible, and we are excited to watch them pursue their passions and achieve their ambitions in the years to come.”

We are particularly pleased to celebrate the fantastic outcomes gained by students who joined us for Sixth Form from local schools such as Unity Academy and Hutton Grammar.

Notable achievements include talented pianist, Meghna (A*A*A*): a year younger than her peers, she has a deferred place to read Medicine at Christ Church College, Oxford in 2023. Alicia (A*A*A*), who won United Learning’s national Best in Everyone Award for her Musical Composition, will read Music at Lincoln College, Oxford this Autumn.

Twins Mia and Tara both achieved A*A*A, albeit in different subjects. Mia will read PPE at King’s College London and Tara, Medicine at Aston University. The impressive sisters have a wealth of interests beyond their studies, with Deputy Head Student, Mia, transforming the School Council to form the School Leadership Committee and Tara having been awarded the school prize for Endeavour whilst undertaking the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Heads of School, Oliver (A*A*A) and Keira (A*A*B), will read Mathematics and Statistics at Queen Mary University of London and Geography at Newcastle University respectively. Oliver balances his studies with professional acting contracts, in addition to being a core member of our Performing Arts Department, where his principal roles have included Fagin in this year’s musical, Oliver!. Keira supported local NHS children's community teams by designing and printing 700 colourful laminates for insertion into visors to make health workers' PPE less frightening for children. Her compassionate nature has also made her an influential member of VENT, our student-led mental health initiative.

Arseniy (A*A*A*A*) joined us in Year 10 from Russia and will go on to study Economics at UCL. Amjad (AAC) joined us for Sixth Form from Unity Academy, having emigrated from Syria two years previously. He now looks forward to a future in Pharmacy.

Chris B., who, amongst many other things, has been a stalwart of the rugby 1st XV team, achieved A*A*A* and will be heading off to Bristol to study Civil Engineering.

Head of Sixth Form, Kevin Maund, said, “The AKS Class of 2022 is an undaunted set of people. They have risen to a series of unexpected challenges over the last two years with humour and good grace, and I wish them all the very best for their bright futures. We look forward to inviting them back to AKS in the future as newly-minted members of our OAKS alumni.”
