European Day of Languages in Prep School

Did you know that fire engines make different noises in different languages? Our prep school children put this amazing fact very noisily into practice last week as part of their activities to mark European Day of Languages - a time when people all over Europe are celebrating the exciting and diverse languages of our world.

After an assembly where they looked at just what learning a language can do for your brain and your future career, all of the children joined in a very silly song with a verse in each of 4 different languages (5 if you include English)!

We still had lots of energy left afterwards for a noisy fire engine treasure hunt around the school. In English we might grow up describing the sound a fire engine makes as 'Nee Nah, Nee Nah', but other languages describe that sound very differently, from 'PimPom PimPom' in France to 'Bpeepo Bpeepo' in Korea.

Ask your child to demonstrate a few noisy examples if you dare! It's all part of the wonderful world of modern foreign language learning at AKS.
