“The Sixth Form at AKS is an exceptional preparation for life beyond school, whatever individual pathways people pursue.” David Harrow, Headmaster.

A levels represent a significant rite of passage, opening doors to selective courses, vocational qualifications and careers. The qualifications coincide with significant personal and social development, as you literally and metaphorically 'come of age', growing in maturity, responsibility and independence. All this can feel daunting at times, so choosing the right sixth form which will enable you to thrive is critical. You need the right environment, a strong support network and access to experienced advisors; you will want to be treated as an individual and to feel understood

When asked what sets AKS apart, aside from consistently achieving outstanding results, Headmaster, David Harrow, explained, "AKS Sixth Form combines a high-quality academic education, delivered by dedicated and supportive teachers, with an extraordinary range of co-curricular activities and experiences, including sport, performing arts, outdoor education and service, and opportunities to build team and leadership skills as well as entrepreneurship. Alongside outstanding examination results, AKS students have an enviable track record of progressing to their chosen university courses, prestigious apprenticeships and employment. Whether you join at sixteen, or have been at the school for many years, the Sixth Form at AKS is an amazing place to be.

Head of Sixth Form, Kevin Maund added, "Reflective learning is the key to success at Sixth Form. Our bespoke enrichment programme will work with you to strengthen your transferable skills, develop your critical thinking and broaden your aspirations."

Our track record of results is unparalleled in the region in either the state or independent sector. Over the past five years, 60% of all A-level grades have been A*, A or B, with over a third being awarded A*/A.

Yet students achieve more than As at AKS. The rounded development with which we are synonymous is delivered through the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and being one of only 200 schools across the globe to be a Round Square school, which acknowledges our world class character development. This has resulted in our longstanding success with initiatives like the Tycoon in Schools business enterprise competition, with our ‘Bottle Boutique’ team being the latest to win this national competition in 2018/19.

Mr McIntyre, Head of Business Education and Tycoons’ team leader, commented, “the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and work ethic that has led to Bottle Boutique’s success are attributes we seek to build in all our students, whether they choose to study business or not. This creates a culture where students are confident to take the lead, as well as being able to form strong teams. This in turn has resulted in our excellent track record and prepares our students for the world of work.”

After receiving his A level results (A*A*A*A), Jeremy, Head Boy (2018/19) commented, “It was a phenomenal experience to be Head Boy at AKS and to be involved with all our community service initiatives. I’ve also appreciated both the support and academic challenge that I’ve received during my time here - I couldn’t have imagined a better place to grow up”.

England U18 Hockey Captain, Mollie, secured a place to study biochemistry and genetics at Nottingham University added, “I’ve appreciated not only the range of co-curricular opportunities but also the great academic support. I’m particularly grateful to my teachers who have enabled me to pursue my hockey by supporting me outside of lessons and helping me manage my time”.

This summer our leavers have gone on to read a wide range of subjects including: Computer Sciences at UCL, Biochemistry and Genetics at Nottingham; Biology at Sheffield; Economics at York; Psychology at Manchester; Chemistry at Kings College London and Medicine at a variety of sought-after universities. A significant proportion of students go on to study at Russell Group Universities, with others choosing prestigious apprenticeships with companies, including British Aerospace, with others, who have gained the results they need, taking a break to pursue interests outside of education including travel and philanthropy. Excellent grades allow students to choose their own routes.
