Year 11 Netball crowned Fylde & Wyre League Champions and achieve 'the treble'.

Following their success in winning the Fylde & Wyre U16 Netball tournament the AKS Year 11 Netball team are once again celebrating after achieving a ‘league treble’ by winning the Fylde & Wyre South League for the third year in a row.

Having been league champions in Year 9 and Year 10 the team went into their final league game against Lytham High School unbeaten and with the treble in their sights.

The Yr 11 Netball team have been on a very good winning run over the last few weeks and went into their last league game in high spirits but on a wet Thursday afternoon both Lytham and AKS started slowly and the game was very scrappy and error strewn.  Uncharacteristic lapses in concentration and a lack of accuracy in our passing saw Lytham go in to an early lead. We gradually started to play with more control and after an even first half we went into half time with the scores was level at 4-4.  The second half started much the same with the weather affecting the play of both teams.  Lytham however were keen to prove they wanted to win and with more consistent passing and shooting they edged into a 9 – 6 lead. With the league title in the balance AKS responded to this pressure and began to fight back putting more and more pressure on Lytham.  Improved movement and passing down the court saw us create more scoring opportunities and with Ellie improving her conversion rate considerably we closed the gap and were soon on level terms. Great defending from Tara  and Amelia limited the Lytham scoring and with minutes to go we edged a goal ahead. Not to outdone Lytham equalised but we showed great character to raise our game again and at the final whistle we had secured a hard fought 12 – 10 victory and with it claimed our third league title.

Player of the match was the hard working Tara but all the team must be congratulated on finishing their netball careers at AKS as Fylde & Wyre South League and Tournament Champions.
