With a bumper packed 6 fixtures taking place this Saturday at AKS vs Ripley, it was another positive start to the football season for all our teams despite the results.
Our U12A’s gave another great account of themselves once again, against tough opposition. Mr Collings was delighted with the boys play, pressing high and creating several opportunities to score but for some outstanding saves from their keeper who kept them in it. 2 fortuitous goals by Ripley was enough to give them victory as AKS were only able to pull 1 goal back despite the chances created.

Our U12B’s also gave another great account of themselves and battled bravely till the end despite the score line. A couple of scrappy goals by Ripley early on took the game away from AKS although they never gave up, holding their shape and competing all over the pitch.

The U13’s faced another tough test this Saturday against a very strong Ripley side who ran out comfortable winners despite all our boy’s best efforts. Ripley were quick out the blocks and put AKS under pressure with Josh Squires being forced to make some great saves early on in goal, earning himself the MOM performance. Leyton Collier scored AKS only goal of the game.

The U14’s were unlucky to lose this match after matching their opponents throughout the game. Cameron McIntyre making his debut in goal pulled off some fine saves and kept his side in the game early on, Ripley just edging the first half 1.0 despite all the boy’s efforts.
With skipper Tom O’Hara missing through injury, the boys battled bravely and determined not to be beaten gave it everything they had with Rio & George looking to create several opportunities to score. With 3 quick fire goals, Ripley soon ran away with the victory despite the team’s tenacity and endeavour to get something from the game.

Score: AKS 0 v 4 Ripley
The U15’s pulled off the result of the day snatching a sublime equaliser in the final minutes of the game through Kobe Sinclairs right foot volley into the roof of the net.
In an evenly balanced first half, both teams gave a good account of themselves and went into the break 0.0 at half time. With the second half starting as the first half ended, the deadlock was broken by a neat through ball from Ripley allowing their forward to get in behind, what had been a water tight defence, to score the opener. The AKS reply to this could not have been more emphatic, with Kobe Sinclair scoring a superb individual goal just two minutes later, planting the ball into the top right-hand corner. After their goal AKS looked to push on and they dominated possession and chances as a result. A lapse in concentration at the back, however let Ripley in for their second goal giving them a 2-1 lead. AKS continued to dominate the play and this dominance was rewarded with a last-minute equaliser and a second goal for Kobe Sinclair. A superb delivery from Zac Littler after winning a free kick, Kobe ghosted into the far post and dispatched a volley with his left foot that almost tore the net. This was an outstanding performance as well as a true display of resilience from the boys.

Score: AKS 2 v 2 Ripley
Our U16’s playing together for the first time this season, were unlucky not to win this game against a very strong Ripley side. From the first whistle AKS dominated the play and the team grew with confidence the more the game went on, Tristan Woodman and Fraser Burton were causing the Ripley defence endless amounts of problems with their strength and pace.
On 10mins the deadlock was broken, and it was Woodman who slotted the ball into the Ripley goal after a ball over the top from Morgan Davies caused problems in the Ripley defence. From the re-start AKS were caught out and a ball down the middle was converted by Ripley who made it 1.1 instantly, totally against the run of play and unfortunate for Bell and Davies who were solid at the heart of the defence once again.
‘1.1 soon became 4.1 to Ripley with 2 soft goals and a great strike from Ripley striker who gave Webster no chance in goal as it fizzed past him and into the bottom corner, bitter blow for the team who were seemingly in control of the game through their hard work.
The second half was barely under way and Ripley added a 5th goal from a cross that fortuitously hit a Ripley knee and found the back of the net. Not deterred the AKS team dug in and created further opportunities, unfortunately not able to capitalise on their great play. A spirited and collective team performance was great to see despite the score line.

Score: AKS 1 v 5 Ripley
On Wednesday 15th January, both our Senior teams (U18) faced a tough test against Bolton Boys School at AKS, against their 2nd & 3rd sides.
Our U18A were beaten 6.1 despite all the boy’s efforts, Fraser Burton hitting the cross bar from a corner kick and then making the Bolton keeper pull off a fine save from his free kick 25yds out from goal. Against the run of play, Bolton broke down the AKS back line and took a 2.0 lead into half time.
Further goals were added by Bolton and a great strike from Burton gave AKS reward for another fine display against their opponents who are well into their football season, 6.1 the final score but all our boys can be proud of themselves.
