Girls enjoy Lancashire U15 Indoor Cricket Cup

PUBLISHED 21 January 2020

It was another sporting first for AKS girls as a team of Year 9 and 10 pupils entered the Lancashire U15 Indoor Cricket Cup and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of cricket. With many playing their first ever cricket match. The girls have been training hard and with extra coaching from coach Mr Castellas are showing great development so the tournament provided a superb opportunity for them to put in to practice the skills they have learnt this term.

The first game saw us face a Rossall side on home turf. We batted first and although nervous at first as the runs started to stack up the girls gained in confidence and started to enjoy their first batting experience and at the end of the innings had scored a superb total of 82 runs. Defending a good total everyone bowled and fielded superbly and limited Rossall to just 52 runs to earn our first victory.

Our second match saw us against a strong and more experienced Cardinal Allen team. We again batted first and with everyone adding to the score set Cardinal Allen a total of 73 to win.  Another strong performance with all the girls sharing the workload and getting opportunities to perform saw us make Cardinal Allen work hard for their runs but they racked up a total of 92 to take the spoils. Excellent performance from everyone but especially from Beth, Katie and Olivia who set the tone and despite not recording a second win it was a great afternoon with all the girls getting the flavour of competition cricket and enjoying the challenge of a new sport.

The girls will continue to attend coaching sessions as we look forward to more strong performances in the future as we grow AKS Cricket.
