What is your role at AKS?

I am HOS for Lower School which is Y7-9. I am also Head of PSHE which is something I love and am very enthusiastic about - getting to talk to you about all sorts of issues - a great way to get to know you!

I also teach RS (Religious Studies) and run three lunch time clubs - A Wellbeing Club just for Year 7 and both a War Hammer and a Dungeons and Dragons club.

Where did you study or work before coming to AKS or what were your previous roles?

I have done a lot of different jobs - before AKS I was teaching in Blackpool, and before that London. However I initially trained as a nurse in Scotland, specialised in midwifery, worked for a church youth charity for a while with disadvantaged teenagers, had a stint in prison as a chaplain, before studying for my degree moving into teaching!

Why did you become a teacher?

I didn’t initially consider teaching, but as a youth worker in London I began to help in schools and particularly in RS lessons.I loved the way the pupils really wanted to ask questions, get involved in debates and showed a real curiosity about the world. One school really encouraged me to get a degree and then gave me my first teaching job!

What's the best thing about working at AKS?

The genuine feeling of family - we know each other, the lovely sense of fun and some serious learning!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I've been on Eastenders!

What is your favourite book and why?

I love crime books - but my very favourite book has to be Cinderella!

Who would you most like to meet (past or present) and what would you ask them?

As an RS teacher I suppose I should say Jesus, however Mary Queen of Scots or Russell Brand. I would like to ask then what motivates them to keep on doing what they did / do.

Where in the world would you like to visit and why?

St Lucia - my husband is from there and he's never taken me!

What one piece of advice would you give to the AKS students?

Be kind! It sounds simple, but as we are together every day as a school it is so important - it helps others and builds our own character too.
