Year 2 are growing in every sense of the word...

Remote learning has indeed got its challenges for parents, teachers and children; however, I am also noticing the benefits as the time has progressed.

The children in year 2 continue to develop and improve their writing by having the time to draft and re draft their work, making sure it is the best that they can do. Their vocabulary, use of expanded noun phrases and sheer imagination has blossomed, with the valued support for many, of a parent on hand to encourage and guide the process.

I have read wonderful poems, stories, news reports and recounts, which show the effort put in by the children. Another great benefit is the time to research topics through the internet and from books. Year 2 are finding out all about ‘Seaside holidays in the past’ by watching old footage of Blackpool and other popular resorts, Harry has enjoyed reading about the local area and looking at the wonderful old photographs in his book. We are also learning about physical growth in our ‘Plants’ topic, understanding what plants need to grow and thrive. Last week we planted our seeds and are keeping a sunflower diary to track their growth. We will learn about the different parts of a plant and the process of pollination.

I wonder if anyone's seeds have started to grow yet and who will end up with the tallest sunflower by September?!
