Mrs Blinston's update from week commencing 15th June
Another fabulous week of learning in Year 4! During the English lesson we looked at the difference between fact and opinion facts can be supported by evidence whereas opinions are based on thoughts and feelings. We also shared some of the wonderful poems that we created last week! In maths the children investigated Roman numerals to 100 and created the most amazing complex tessellations.
In Science we investigated the two types of energy: renewable and non-renewable. Renewable energy is a natural source of energy that will never run out. Sources such as wind, the Sun and water are renewable energy sources that can be used to create electricity. Non-renewable energy is also known as fossil fuels. We discussed that much of the world’s energy is produced by burning fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas and looked at ways to be more environmentally friendly.
In History we identify we explored the Mayan gods and goddesses, and which were very important to the Mayans and there were over 150 of them. Mayan gods and goddesses were deities, who are supernatural, supreme beings. We linked this to the year 4 art work and sketched the Mayan gods and goddesses. In Geography we looked at Europe and which countries comprise Europe and the bodies of water that surround it.
Our Design Techology (DT) project was to design our own gardens. We researched wildlife gardens, including environmental features, looked at wildlife friendly plants and any safety issues.
