The Growing Race is On in Year 2!

PUBLISHED 22 June 2020

Update on week commencing 15th June by Mrs Bleasdale, Year 2 teacher.

Last week we continued to track the growth of our sunflowers and the competition is on for who can grow the tallest sunflower by the end of August. As you will see from the photographs, they are already well under way in many households with the children enjoying the responsibility for nurturing their own plants.

Year 2 have been working very hard to master the rules of column addition and have done so well that we have advanced onto adding three figure numbers, which they are coping with really well. We have also become very good at doing our own research and found out about different coastal towns, marking them on our maps and in Science we could research the unusual life cycle of the fig wasp.

We wrote postcards in English, but used our History theme as the focus, I was so impressed with the detail about seaside holidays in the past that the children put in from lessons and through watching videos and reading books.

As we move into our next phase of learning for the next couple of weeks, I would like to thank year 2 for being such a pleasure to teach by Skype. They have been sensible, polite and engaged in their learning, showing respect for each other during collaborative work.

Many of us are back to school now for face-face lessons, but I will continue to support those who are remaining at home.
