Learning about learning in Year 1

An update from Mrs Smith, Year 1 teacher.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been thinking about our learning; what we are already good at, what we find a little tricky, and what we are proud of already. Some of our existing skills are very useful, such as being good at sharing, or smiling, or reading. Others are just for fun, such as being good at bouncing, or hopping on one leg! Some of us find counting to 100 tricky, or writing our numbers the right way around. We are proud of being able to come into school on our own, producing careful handwriting and understanding what odd and even numbers are. What are you proud of this week?

We enjoyed the sunshine as we went to find out which kinds of trees are planted at school. We found lots of Sycamores, some Beech, Hawthorn and some Mountain Ash. The clues were in the shape of the leaves and what their seeds look like. Soon these clues will disappear for a while.

We are getting much quicker at ordering numbers to 20 forwards and backwards and now we know how to spot whether a number is odd or even, even if it is a huge number.
