Year 6 Maths club is on every Friday night after school. Lots of people come! In fact, it is one of the most popular clubs in Year 6. During Maths club we solve problems to do with maths to work out codes to solve the calculation or mystery. This week in maths club we did a murder mystery and what happened was that a lady had died from poison in her drink and the maid who brought her drink in was shot in the other room. Then we found out that the diamonds, which were worth millions, where stolen from the box where the lady who got poisoned kept them.
There where 32 suspects, 6 clues – 5 to find the murderer and 1 clue to locate the missing diamonds. Each clue was centred around a different maths topic to include fractions, symmetry, digital roots, coordinates, simple algebra, sequences and shape. Each clue would eliminate half the suspects and the final clue told you where the diamonds were hidden! At the end of the club it was a frenzy of excitement in the last few minutes, as all the teams battled it out to solve the last clue and locate the stolen diamonds, which were in fact hidden in the toilet, which was a very funny twist!
This week, Mr Avis (our Maths teacher, who runs Maths club and is very good at maths) helped with the final clue until a winner was found. Maanav and I were so close, but it was Anika that swooped in and stole the mystery game prize in the last few seconds! I didn’t mind too much as Maanav and I won last week! Prizes can be silly ones too, but we don’t mind as it’s all part of the fun! Everyone who comes to maths club has a bit of a laugh whilst doing our maths and we always get on with each other, so it’s always really good fun. I think that all Year 6’s should join as we get extra tips and information on how to do things. Altogether, I think that this is a great club and people should give it a go!
