On Monday our focus for our rehearsal was recording ensemble tracks with Mr Hodgkinson and Mr Rugman focusing on recording the different versions of The Ballads of Sweeney Todd. It felt great knowing we now have a solid foundation for our stage performance. The process gave me a real glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes of professional live theatre. Going over the ballads again also worked as a bit of a revision, which was super helpful.
In our rehearsal on Wednesday, we did a run through of Act 1 and got to hear our vocal recordings for the first time. We’ve gotten a lot smoother and more confident since our last run-through, but there are still a few scenes and transitions that need more work. It’s all about tightening things up now.
In Thursday’s rehearsal Act 2 was the focus and we did our first official run through. We worked through transitions between pieces we hadn’t tried yet. It was a bit tricky, but necessary to make sure everything flows well. It's tough, but it’s coming together.
On Sunday we went through both sets of notes from Wednesday and Thursday and then revisited Act 1 after refining a few details. We then spent the afternoon filming promotional behind-the-scenes footage for both acts. We had the help of Hugo in Year 13 who is our Sweeney Todd student social media manager. We wore our Sweeney Todd rehearsal tops and hoodies to make it look more polished and professional.
Overall, it’s been a week of polishing, rehearsing, and preparing for what's ahead. Each day feels like we’re getting closer to something really special.
