AMSP Year 10 Maths Feast

AMSP Year 10 Maths Feast

PUBLISHED 22 April 2024

AKS entered 3 teams of 4 students into the AMSP Year 10 Maths Feast on Thursday 18th April at Lancaster University. It is a national competition with events held all over England. We had two very able Sixth Form student who were invaluable in helping look after two of the groups and also in helping with marking all of the questions throughout the event.

Maths Feast is a fun educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of four students will test their maths skills with our all-you-can-eat feast of problems!

There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success. Each event takes between two and three hours, and awards will be given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.

The students particularly enjoyed the origami round where they were asked to construct both cubes and rhombic dodecahedra from six folded pieces of A6 paper.

All our students competed well against over 20 other very strong teams from schools both inside and outside of the region. We were pleased that one of our teams won one of the two team working awards.

Students commented on the event saying,

“Although it was very challenging, I really enjoyed it and thought it was a great experience.”

“I really enjoyed the atmosphere and teamwork needed to complete the mathematically challenging tasks.“

“It was fun to work as a team to work through the challenges.”

The students who attended were: Jack R (Year 10), Olivia D (Year 10), Stevie S (Year 10), Oliver S (Year 10),, Charlie W (Year 10), Emelie B (Year 10),  Zena RO'L (Year 10), Hiruni P (Year 10), Sophie B (Year 10), Maisie McK (Year 10), Lilly G (Year 10), Myles T (Year 10), Katie L (Year 12), and Sophie F (Year 12)
