Year 6 Showcase Assembly: COP 28, Vikings, short stories, Maths, music and more!

A huge well done to the Year 6 children for delivering their polished showcase assembly this morning! All pupils were incredibly excited to share their projects and work they have been busy learning so far in recent months at the Prep School.

This annual event has grown in content year on year and celebrates the diverse range of talents we are so keen to nurture and develop at the Prep School before they transition to Year 7. Facilitated by Mr Avis and Mr Dreyer, every child was encouraged to share their passions and ambitions with the audience and acknowledge and celebrate their achievements.

The children had the opportunity to share their exercise books from all areas of the curriculum with parents and family, alongside those of their peers too! Mrs IIhan encouraged parents to move around the room to find out about each other’s work. This presents a fantastic two-way learning platform, insightful for the parents, given the breadth of work undertaken, whilst also giving the children the chance to talk to adults who may not know about their work and interests.

The range and quality of work displayed, presented and performed was exceptional, including enquiry-based research on short and long-term time scales. These investigatory pieces really highlighted the children’s curiosity to know more about the past, developing their perspective and judgement and improving their ability to think critically and form opinions.

The audience also had the opportunity to listen to several short stories that the children have written for the annual StorySLAM competition, busting with complex literary devices and advanced vocabulary. Another delight was to hear beautiful piano recitals from Arabella and Grace, not to mention Oscar and Jacob’s drum and guitar jam session!

Following the children’s engagement with COP28 last term, it was another opportunity to spotlight the urgency to address climate change. It is so reassuring to know that the younger generation have so many ideas on improving the environment and changing our world for the better. Sam’s opening presentation on carbon capture really demonstrated how much young people are not only increasingly aware of the challenges and risks presented by the climate crisis, but also new opportunities to help save our planet in the future.

Thank you to all our visitors for taking time to discuss the children's work with them. Such dialogue helps them to build their confidence, as verbal and social skills for ongoing success as they transition into Senior School.
