This year’s Prize Giving event took place on Tuesday 4th July in the OAKS Hall. Phil Owen, Chair of the Local Governing Body (LGB) gave the Welcome and Introduction in which he drew parallels between guest speaker, Bill Gillen (Headmaster of Arnold School, 1993-2003), and current Headmaster, David Harrow – praising both for their leadership.

In his Headmaster’s Address, David Harrow shared highlights of what has been an exceptionally successful year, across both the curricular and co-curricular life of the school. After presenting the students with their awards, Bill Gillan shared his ‘six recommendations’ with the prize-winners to enable them to achieve fulfilled and meaningful lives.

Bill’s advice included: cherishing one’s family, including their school community; nurturing and respecting friends; keeping active in body and mind; working to the best of one’s ability and making the best of any situation one finds oneself in; establishing a set of values, including how to treat others and having faith in others and oneself; and finally, to cultivate a lively sense of humour which will contribute to a life well lived and provide solace during difficult times.

Musical interludes were provided by Hugo (Year 11) on saxophone and Louis (Year 13) on piano. After the evening’s formalities, guests, students and their parents enjoyed drinks on the lawn.
