It was another record breaking afternoon for the girls athletics team at AKS as three new best performances were set and both the Junior and Intermediate teams can boast being in the top 6 athletics schools in the North West.

Talented Yr 8 athlete Camilla C was on record breaking form again when she improved her own PB and the school All Comers and AKS records in the 200m with a superb time of 26.5s to score 29 points for the team. Hot on her heels was Yr 9 Charlotte L who also set a new PB of 26.7s , getting under 27s for the first time , and in doing so broke the AKS Year 9 record and scored 27 points.

The ESAA Cup competition is a team event with every athlete scoring points for their performances and these contributing to a team total. As well as the record breakers there was a host of personal bests and improved performances which saw both teams improve on their team totals from the first round by over 20 points.

The Junior team scored an impressive 347 points to finish in 3rd spot and there were some superb performances on the track and in the field. In the 1500m great runs and PB’s from Elsie T, who smashed the 6 minute barrier for the first time with 5m48.9s to score 21 points and Izzy A who knocked 35s off her best with 6m07 to add a further 18 points. In the 800m Isla C dipped under 3 minutes for the first time with a PB of 2m58.5s for 18 points and Camilla W scored 19 points with 14.0s in the 100m. In the field top performers were Camilla C in the Long jump with a leap of 4.57m(21pts), Anna V in the Javelin 21.40m(21pts), Olivia D in the Discus 19.08m(18pts) and Shelby Q in the high jump 1.29m(17pts).

The Intermediate team also improved their scored by 21 points to 351 securing 6th spot. On the track Charlotte L’s superb 200m was backed up by great runs in the 1500m from Lisa P (5m29s 22pts) and Sophia M ( 5m44.1 19pts) while Kirtika S improved in the 300m  scoring 20pts with a time of 46.0s and Hannah A set a season’s best of 2m49.1 in the 800m for 16pts. Top performer in the field events was Lilly G who produced a PB of 9.01m in the shot to bag 19 pts while Rosie L gave another consistent performance in the hammer (25.10m 18pts) and Sophie S threw 23.55m in the javelin. The team welcomed back Amelia H after illness and her Discus throw of 20.85m( 17) and solid run of 14.9s in the hurdles (15) contributed more valuable points to the team’s final total.

Overall a superb team performance with all the athletes contributing to our final totals and the girls now look forward to the Fylde Coast Championships and School Sports Day.
