Prep School Sport: Autumn term round-up

PUBLISHED 14 December 2021

It's been a jam-packed term for sport and fixtures at Prep School, here's a brief round-up of the highlights we've enjoyed:

Swimming

Children in Years 1-6 have enjoyed weekly swimming lessons, culminating in our House swimming galas at the end of term. Gawthorpe won the Year 3 and 4 gala, congratulations to girl/boy champions, Violet and William (Year 3) and Penny and Jack (Year 4). Leighton won the Year 5 and 6 gala, congratulations to girl/boy champions, Sadie and Noah (Year 5) and Camilla and Eli (Year 6).

Hockey

In addition to our well-attended boys' and girls' hockey clubs, we're seeing our Prep pupils show great promise, as they move through the school, following in the footsteps of our stellar senior players. Our U10/11 girls have enjoyed a several fixtures, including against St Mary's Hall, Withington Girls' School; and won both games against Kirkham Grammar. Our Year 3 and 4 girls enjoyed an indoor fixture against Ashbridge.

Rugby

Our U8, U9, U10 and U11 rugby teams have all shown great commitment and development in their fixtures this term, under the guidance of Mr Embleton, our new specialist rugby coach, in addition to Mr Worthington and Mr Bell. Their matches have included playing both home and away against St Mary's Hall, Rossall (home) and Kirkham Grammar (away).

Football

We hosted the U10 and U11 Girls' Wyre and Fylde Football Festival at AKS, in which our U11 team were worthy runners-up. Our boys' team attended the U11 AJIS Festival, whereas our Year 3 and 4 boys played Ashbridge School. All-in-all, the teams have enjoyed end-to-end action, goals, saves. tackles and plenty of fun!

Cross-Country

Our U11 boys' and girls' teams took part in the AJIS Cross Country Tournament at Rossall this term. Special mention to I. Campbell who finished 11th in the Year 6 girls' race.

Basketball

We were delighted to host the Year 3 and 4 Wyre and Fylde Basketball Tournament once again. Many thanks to the Year 10 students who officiated.

Multi-Skills Festival

Once again, we hosted the Wyre and Fylde Multi-Skills Festival, which is a fun inclusion festival for our KS1 (Infants) years. Many thanks to our Year 6 sports leaders who helped the tournament run so smoothly.

Congratulations to all our pupils for getting involved, working hard and showing great improvement over the course of this term!
