Talented Mathematicians take part in "Preparing for TMUA and MAT" course

PUBLISHED 11 November 2021

Four Year 12s took part in the remote "Preparing for TMUA and MAT" course last week. This was aimed at Year 13 students who were preparing for two maths-based university admissions tests noted above MAT and TMUA.

We had our very able Year 12 Further Mathematicians participate in the course, to help them prepare for what they would face in 12 months time.

Two of our students gave us an insight into the course:

"A good online session that was helpful to attend, the questions made you think and the active parts of it, when they occurred, were engaging and interesting. TMUA and MAT techniques taught in the session were worth going over and they were thoroughly demonstrated by the lecturer. The pace was a bit slow at points, and I especially felt that the lecturer could have done with having prepared his exemplary answers before the lecture and made the beginning of the lecture a bit faster, and the lecture was too long for what it was. On the other hand, it was definitely a worthwhile experience and I enjoyed doing some different maths with my classmates! "

Max

"It was very beneficial as it gave us insight as to how the respective tests are formatted, and the skills required to answer these questions successfully. The comments on timing and the systematic approach to tackling questions were useful. However, I felt there was a disproportionate amount of time spent on each slide, which meant we were presented with less questions than we’d expect from its four-hour runtime."
