We’re delighted to welcome back Mr Thomas to our music department, focusing mainly on working with our nursery and preparatory students.
Mr Thomas is known to many of our students and parents after his previous work at the school last year. His infectious enthusiasm is matched by an outstanding musical background, conducting various ensembles whilst also playing Euphonium, Trombone, Cornet, Piano, Accordion, Percussion and is Tenor singer. He is also a member of the prestigious Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band which is currently featuring in the ‘Battle of the Bands’ on Sky Arts:
If you have Sky TV, take a look as it covers the Whit Friday marches, which Mr Thomas’ band won for the 3rd year running! We would also like to wish him and Brighouse good luck for this weekend as they compete at the British Open Brass Band championships held in Birmingham Symphony Hall!
Mr Thomas is keen to make the joy of music accessible to all and will be working on several initiatives across the school, the first is the introduction of a preparatory school orchestra which will involve everyone in Years 3-6 and culminate in a first official performance at our prep school Christmas concert on 16th December.
It is envisaged that the orchestra will be an 80-strong ensemble, including Flutes, Clarinets, Violins, Cellos, Cornets, Trombones, Percussion and many more. We can’t wait to hear them perform!
