An interview with Amrin (Year 13) by Digital Strategy Leadership students, Emily and Niamh (Year 13)
1. What subjects do you do? Why?
I do Maths, Biology and Geography. When I chose my subjects, I had no idea what I wanted to study at university therefore I picked subjects based on what I enjoyed. I am glad that I did this as I have enjoyed all my lessons and it has helped clarify future options for me.
2. What is your favourite thing about sixth form? And why?
Having not studied at AKS for GCSEs, I was a nervous starting here, but now I’m in year 13 that has all changed. My favourite thing about sixth form is the support from the staff and the friendly atmosphere. I’ve made some great friends and I also enjoy sixth form socials such as the sixth form bake off, which gives us a break from our academic studies and allows us to relax and socialise with each other.
3. What does a typical day in sixth form look like for you?
I usually have at least one lesson of each subject and an opportunity for independent study where I am able to revise or catch up with work. Twice a week I will have an enrichment session where we focus on several different things such as personal statements for university or discussing topical issues. I also attend support sessions during lunch if I need help with any of my subjects.
4. What advice would you give to a year 12 about to start sixth form?
Try to stay organised and keep up with all your work from the beginning so there’s less stress during your end of year exams. Also, ask for help if you need it, the teachers are there to support you. However, my main advice would be to not stress too much as A Levels are meant to be difficult so if you’re finding something hard – it’s okay!
