AKS Fair is another Christmas Cracker!

PUBLISHED 14 December 2019

Our Amazing AKS PTA organised another cracking Christmas Fair today. There were festive games, entertainment from our Giant Orchestra from prep school and a variety of bands and ensembles, plus solo performances and even a taste of The Addams Family production from senior school musicians.

Our youngest visitors had the chance to meet Father Christmas, make sand art and test their hockey skills, as well as trying their luck with 'the crazy hat game'. They could also pick up some children's toys from the prep school rainbow stall; reindeer food and hot chololate reindeers (courtesy of AKS Action) and chance their luck on the choloate tombola. If that wasn't enough, there was the 'lucky stick' game run by the Soroptmists and the sweet and cake stalls to attract their attention.

For adults, there were an array of Christmas treats and stocking fillers for sale, from Edward Dee candles; to fine art (by AKS alumna, Megan), Christmas wreaths (handmade by Lynn from the senior school office); shrubs from Leafy Lytham; skincare goods from the likes of Neal's Yard and Tropic; an array of craft stalls and our three 'Tycoon in Schools' teams. The highlights of the day included the prizes on offer (including an enormous 'Olaf' who caught the eye of both young and old) and a 'Spooky Photo Opportunity' to have a professional photo taken with the cast of the Addams Family.

All that action was thirsty work, so it was a good job that visitors were able to stop by our pop-up cafe in our dining room for mulled wine and brie/cranberry paninis.

Many thanks to our staff, students and wider members of our community who contributed to today, but most of all, a massive 'thank you' to our tireless PTA for all they work that they do. Our PTA have reinvested £6,000 earned at last year's events and it was perhaps most fitting to see the giant orchestra play with the musical instruments that the PTA have bought over the years. Our extensive AKS music scheme has been fully funded by PTA contributions and now includes: violins in Year 3, tombones in Year 4, clarinets and flutes in Year 5 and the cornet in Year 6.
