AKS U12 Boy’s Hockey - Monday 24th Feb 2020

On Monday of this week, our U12 hockey boys travelled across to The Manchester Grammar School to take part in their North West invitational tournament. This was another step forward into boys hockey for AKS as we look to develop the sport and the day proved to be one of huge enjoyment, development and learning.

In the company of some very big and traditional boy’s hockey schools, AKS went into their first game on the back of a long journey and with little time to warm-up as a result. Despite this the boys played some superb hockey, scoring the first goal of the game and earning themselves a well-earned draw against one of two MGS sides.

The second game pitched us against Wirral Grammar School and the boys, having found their feet in the first game started finding space in behind the oppositions defensive line and finished their chances off, which is something they struggled to do in the opening game. The match finished 6-0 to AKS, with Alfie scoring a hattrick in just 15 minutes of play.

Following that win AKS pitted their developing game against three of the strongest schools in the region, including Manchester Grammar, Altrincham Grammar and Calday Grammar, losing each game by slim margins and developing so much from each experience. A draw 1-1 against Rossall school, having allowed a lead to disappear in the final minutes of the game, AKS took on Wirral Grammar once more for their final fixture, winning that one 2-0 and ensuring all 12 members of the squad got plenty of game time.

AKS player of the tournament went to Angus for his ever-improving ability when in possession of the ball, but all  twelve members of the squad deserve to feel very proud of the progress they have made in such a short space of time.
